Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Be cautious of sharp metal edges around the evaporator area.

Steps:

  • Empty the freezer compartment and remove baskets and shelves.
  • Remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator coil (on upright models) or the bottom/side panel (on chest models).
  • Locate the evaporator sensor clipped to the evaporator tubing or mounted in a small well near the coil.
  • Check that the sensor is firmly attached to the coil and not hanging loose; re-clip it if necessary.
  • Inspect the sensor wiring for ice damage, cuts, or corrosion at the connector.
  • If you have a multimeter, test the sensor resistance and compare to Ocean’s NTC chart; replace the sensor if readings are out of range or open/shorted.
  • Reconnect everything, restore power, and monitor if the E2 code clears. If not, the main control board may need replacement.
