Freezer interior smells bad or musty even after cleaning

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before deep cleaning. Use non-flammable cleaners.

Steps:

• Remove all food and shelves; clean interior surfaces with a mixture of baking soda and warm water.
• Access and clean the defrost drain pan above the compressor; remove any sludge or mold.
• Flush the defrost drain tube with warm water and mild detergent.
• Leave the door open for several hours to air out the interior.
• Use an open box of baking soda or a charcoal odor absorber inside the freezer to help remove residual smells.
