Possible Causes

Open defrost heater, Failed defrost thermostat, Faulty defrost sensor, Main control board not initiating defrost

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Water from melting frost can create slip hazards and electrical risks.

Immediate temporary fix:

  • Remove food to a backup freezer or cooler.
  • Leave the freezer door open and allow it to fully defrost for 12–24 hours, placing towels to catch water.
  • After defrosting, restart the freezer and monitor performance.

Permanent repair steps:

  • Access the evaporator and inspect the defrost heater and thermostat as described in E4/E5.
  • Replace any failed defrost components.
  • If all components test good, the main control board may not be sending power to the heater and should be replaced.
