Possible Causes

Normal automatic defrost cycle, User misinterpreting status code as error, Extended defrost due to heavy frost accumulation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Understanding dF: On many digital Proline freezers, dF indicates that the appliance is in a normal automatic defrost cycle, not a fault.

  • 1. Wait for completion: The dF indication should clear automatically after the defrost period (typically 15–45 minutes), and cooling will resume.
  • 2. Check frost levels: If dF appears very frequently and frost is heavy on the evaporator, inspect the door gasket and door usage habits to reduce moisture ingress.
  • 3. Manual defrost if needed: If ice buildup is severe, unplug the freezer, remove food to a cool location, and allow a full manual defrost. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice.

When to suspect a fault: If dF remains on the display for many hours and the freezer stays warm, there may be a defrost control issue (see defrost-related faults) requiring further diagnosis.
