Possible Causes

Faulty compressor start relay or PTC, Defective inverter module (on inverter-driven models), Loose harness between main PCB and compressor module, Internal compressor electrical fault

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer. Work carefully around the compressor and high-voltage components. Do not attempt sealed-system work unless qualified.

Steps to address E6:

  • 1. Listen for compressor behavior: After plugging in (for testing only), note if the compressor clicks repeatedly, hums then stops, or does not attempt to start. Then unplug again before opening panels.
  • 2. Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear lower service panel to expose the compressor, start device, and control module.
  • 3. Inspect start relay/PTC: On non-inverter Proline freezers, the start relay/PTC is plugged onto the compressor terminals. Check for burn marks, rattling pieces inside, or melted plastic. Replace if damaged.
  • 4. Check wiring and connectors: Ensure the harness from the main control PCB to the compressor or inverter module is fully seated and not damaged.
  • 5. Test compressor windings (advanced): With the start device removed and power disconnected, measure resistance between compressor terminals (C-R, C-S, R-S). Values should be finite and consistent with a healthy compressor. A short to ground or open winding indicates a failed compressor.
  • 6. Replace faulty start device or inverter: If the compressor tests good but the start relay/PTC or inverter module is suspect, install a compatible Proline part.

Important: If the compressor windings are faulty or E6 persists after replacing the start device/inverter, a sealed-system repair or compressor replacement is required and should be performed by a licensed refrigeration technician.
