Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole behind evaporator, Frozen drain tube, Debris or food particles blocking drain channel, Drain heater (if fitted) not working
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer and remove food from the affected area. Use towels to absorb water.
Steps to clear a blocked drain:
- 1. Access evaporator area: Remove baskets and the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator and drain trough.
- 2. Locate drain hole: At the bottom of the evaporator tray, find the small drain opening leading to the rear drain tube.
- 3. Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or syringe to flush the drain. Gently insert a flexible plastic probe or pipe cleaner to dislodge blockages.
- 4. Check drain tube exit: At the back or underneath the freezer, locate the drain tube outlet and collection tray. Ensure the tube is not kinked or blocked and that the tray is correctly positioned.
- 5. Defrost thoroughly: Allow all ice in the drain channel to melt completely before reassembling.
