Possible Causes

Defective cabinet NTC sensor, Broken or loose NTC wiring harness, Corroded connector on control PCB, Faulty main control board reading sensor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer from the mains before removing any panels. Do not work on live circuits.

  • 1. Power reset: Disconnect the freezer for 5–10 minutes, then plug it back in. If E1 returns, continue.
  • 2. Locate the cabinet NTC: On most Severin freezers, the cabinet temperature sensor is behind the inner liner, often near the rear wall or side wall behind a small plastic cover or in a sensor well.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Remove the interior shelf or basket near the sensor cover. Gently pry off the cover. Check the two-wire harness for cuts, pinches, or corrosion at the connector. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • 4. Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure the NTC across its two pins at room temperature. Typical NTCs read between 5–20 kΩ at ~25°C. If it reads open (infinite) or short (near 0 Ω), it is defective.
  • 5. Replace the NTC: If faulty, order a compatible Severin cabinet NTC sensor by model number. Disconnect the old sensor, gently pull it out of the sensor well or clip, insert the new sensor in the same position, and reconnect the harness.
  • 6. Check control board connection: If the sensor tests good, access the main control PCB (usually behind the rear service panel or in the control housing). Inspect the NTC connector for corrosion or loose pins. Clean and reseat.
  • 7. Test operation: Reassemble panels, restore power, and monitor if E1 clears and temperature stabilizes over several hours.

Call a technician if the sensor and wiring are good but E1 persists; the main control board may need replacement.
