Possible Causes

Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control board input channel

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing the rear inner panel or accessing wiring.

  • 1. Access the evaporator area: Empty the freezer compartment and remove baskets/shelves. Unscrew and remove the inner rear panel to expose the evaporator coil (if accessible on your Severin model).
  • 2. Locate the evaporator NTC: Look for a small probe or clip-on sensor attached to the evaporator tubing or embedded in foam near the coil, connected by a thin two-wire cable.
  • 3. Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped or inserted in its designated position. A loose sensor can cause incorrect readings and E2. Reattach securely.
  • 4. Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor cable to its connector. Check for chafed insulation, ice damage, or pulled wires. Reseat the connector.
  • 5. Test the sensor: Use a multimeter to measure resistance at room temperature and again after cooling the sensor tip in ice water. The resistance should change smoothly (increase for NTC). If it is open, shorted, or erratic, replace it.
  • 6. Replace the sensor: Order a Severin-compatible evaporator NTC. Disconnect the old sensor, route the new cable along the same path, secure with clips or tape, and reconnect to the control board harness.
  • 7. Reassemble and test: Refit the inner panel, ensuring no wires are pinched. Restore power and monitor if E2 clears and the freezer maintains stable temperature.

Note: If E2 persists with a known-good sensor and wiring, the main control PCB is likely defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
