Possible Causes
Loose or damaged ribbon cable between UI and main PCB, Oxidized connectors on control board, Moisture ingress into control panel, Faulty user interface PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect the freezer from mains before opening the control housing.
- 1. Remove control panel: On Severin freezers with a front digital display, gently unclip or unscrew the control panel from the door or cabinet front.
- 2. Inspect ribbon cable: Locate the flat ribbon or multi-wire harness connecting the user interface to the main control board. Check for kinks, cuts, or signs of moisture.
- 3. Reseat connectors: Unplug the ribbon/harness from both ends (UI and main PCB) and reinsert firmly. This often restores communication if oxidation was present.
- 4. Dry moisture: If condensation or spills have entered the control area, carefully dry the PCB and connectors with a lint-free cloth and allow several hours of air drying before reassembly.
- 5. Visual inspection: Look for burnt components, cracked solder joints, or corrosion on the UI PCB. If present, the board should be replaced.
- 6. Replace UI board if needed: Order the correct Severin user interface PCB by model number. Transfer any button membranes or display windows as required and reconnect the harness.
- 7. Test operation: Reassemble the control housing, restore power, and verify that E6 is cleared and all buttons and display segments work correctly.
If E6 persists with a new UI board and good cabling, the main control PCB may be defective and should be replaced by a professional.
