Possible Causes

Faulty dedicated alarm NTC sensor, Misplaced sensor not in correct location, Damaged wiring to alarm input, Defective alarm circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the freezer from mains before accessing internal wiring or sensors.

  • 1. Identify alarm sensor: Some Severin freezers use a separate NTC sensor for the high-temperature alarm, often located near the top of the cabinet or in the door frame area.
  • 2. Access sensor: Remove any small plastic covers or trims where the sensor is housed. Carefully pull out the sensor probe if it is in a well.
  • 3. Inspect and reseat: Check the sensor body and cable for damage. Reseat the connector at both the sensor and control board ends.
  • 4. Test resistance: Measure the sensor resistance at room temperature. Compare with other NTC sensors in the unit if possible. Replace if open, shorted, or clearly out of range.
  • 5. Replace sensor: Install a Severin-compatible alarm NTC sensor, routing the cable as originally installed to avoid pinching.
  • 6. Test alarm function: Restore power and simulate a warm condition by temporarily placing the sensor in a slightly warmer environment (e.g., wrapped in a cloth at room temperature) while monitoring the display. Ensure the alarm triggers appropriately, then return the sensor to its proper position.

If E9 persists with a new sensor and intact wiring, the alarm input on the main PCB may be defective and require board replacement.
