Possible Causes
Defective magnetic reed switch in cabinet, Weak or missing door magnet, Misaligned door causing poor magnet alignment, Broken door switch wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing trims or accessing wiring.
- 1. Locate door sensor: On Severin freezers, the door sensor is often a magnetic reed switch embedded in the cabinet frame near the top or side, paired with a magnet in the door.
- 2. Check door alignment: Ensure the door closes evenly and the gasket seals all around. Adjust door hinges if the door is sagging so the magnet aligns with the switch area.
- 3. Test magnet: Hold a small magnet over the suspected switch location with the door open. If the alarm stops and F5 clears, the door magnet may be weak or missing. Replace the door magnet strip or insert.
- 4. Test switch continuity: Access the reed switch by removing the inner trim or small cover. With a multimeter, check continuity while bringing a magnet close. If it does not change state, replace the switch.
- 5. Inspect wiring: Follow the switch wires to the control board, checking for breaks or pinched sections.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: Install a new Severin-compatible reed switch or door magnet as needed, securing it in the original position.
- 7. Verify operation: Restore power and confirm that F5 is cleared and the door alarm behaves correctly.
