Possible Causes
Failed mechanical door switch, Broken door switch actuator, Damaged door switch wiring, Faulty control board door input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before removing the door switch or control panel.
Steps:
- Locate the door switch: On most Westinghouse freezers, the switch is in the door frame near the top or side, activated by the door closing.
- Check operation: Press the switch plunger by hand. The interior light should turn on/off (if power is temporarily restored for this test). If not, unplug again and continue.
- Remove and test switch: Pry the switch out carefully with a plastic tool. Disconnect the wires and test continuity with a multimeter. The switch should change from open to closed when pressed.
- Inspect wiring: Look for loose connectors or broken wires in the door frame area.
- Replace faulty switch: Install a new OEM Westinghouse door switch. Ensure wires are firmly connected and the switch snaps securely into the frame.
- If switch and wiring are good: The control board input circuit may be defective and require replacement.
