Possible Causes
Failed compressor temperature sensor (if equipped), Loose sensor from compressor shell, Damaged sensor wiring, Control board sensor circuit failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the freezer. The compressor and surrounding components can be very hot.
Steps:
- Access compressor area: Remove the rear lower cover to expose the compressor and wiring.
- Locate temp sensor: Some Westinghouse models use a clip-on sensor on the compressor shell or discharge line. Identify the small sensor with two wires.
- Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped to the compressor or line and not dangling. Reattach securely if loose.
- Test sensor: Disconnect and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to typical NTC values. If open or shorted, replace.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the harness to the control board. Repair any damaged sections.
- Replace faulty parts: Install a new OEM compressor temperature sensor if defective. If sensor and wiring are good, replace the main control board.
