Possible Causes

Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Broken fan wiring harness, Faulty control board fan driver

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before working near the fan. Fan blades can start unexpectedly and cause injury.

Steps:

  • Listen for fan: With the door switch held closed and power briefly restored, you should hear the evaporator fan running when the compressor is on. If silent, unplug and continue.
  • Access fan: Remove baskets and the rear inner panel to expose the evaporator fan assembly.
  • Check for ice or obstructions: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. Defrost any ice with warm air; do not use sharp tools.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should move freely without grinding. If stiff or seized, replace the motor.
  • Electrical test: Disconnect the fan connector and measure resistance across the motor terminals. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the fan to the control board for damage.
  • Replace fan motor: Install a new OEM Westinghouse evaporator fan motor and reassemble the shroud and panel.
  • If fan and wiring are good: The control board may not be supplying power to the fan and should be replaced.
