Possible Causes
Failed evaporator fan motor, Ice obstruction around fan blades, Open fan wiring harness, Faulty fan driver on main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before accessing the evaporator fan.
- Access the fan: Remove baskets and the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator and fan assembly.
- Check for ice blockage: Look for ice buildup around the fan shroud or blades. If present, defrost the area with a hair dryer on low, keeping it away from plastic and wiring.
- Spin the fan by hand: The blades should turn freely. If they are stiff or seized, replace the fan motor.
- Test fan voltage: With the unit plugged in and calling for cooling (compressor running), carefully measure voltage at the fan connector (use extreme caution). You should see line or DC voltage depending on model. If voltage is present but the fan does not run, replace the fan motor.
- Check wiring and control: If no voltage is present and wiring is intact, the main control board may not be powering the fan and may need replacement.
