Freezer is cold but runs almost all the time; occasional short off cycles only

Safety first: Unplug the freezer before testing controls or replacing gaskets.

• Check actual temperature: Use a thermometer to verify the internal temperature. If it is colder than set (e.g., -10°F when set to 0°F), the control may be misreading.
• Inspect door gasket: Look for gaps, tears, or hardened sections. Close the door on a sheet of paper; if it pulls out easily, the seal is weak. Replace the gasket if needed.
• Test thermostat: On mechanical models, check continuity across the thermostat at different dial positions. If it never opens, replace it.
• Check thermistor: On electronic models, measure thermistor resistance and compare to the tech sheet. Replace if out of range.
• Level the cabinet: Ensure the freezer is level or slightly tilted back so the door closes firmly.
