Freezer leaking water onto floor from front or rear
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged defrost drain hole, Frozen drain tube, Debris or mold in drain trough, Cracked drain tube grommet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the freezer before removing interior panels. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.
- Locate drain: Remove the rear interior panel to expose the evaporator. The drain hole is usually at the bottom center of the drain trough.
- Clear ice and debris: Use warm (not boiling) water in a turkey baster or squeeze bottle to flush the drain hole until water flows freely into the drain pan under the unit.
- Check drain tube: From the rear, remove the lower access panel and locate the drain tube leading to the drain pan. Ensure it is not kinked or blocked. Clean with a flexible brush if needed.
- Inspect grommet: Check the rubber grommet where the tube enters the drain pan. Clean or replace if clogged with sludge.
- Reassemble and monitor: After clearing, reassemble panels and monitor for further leaks over the next few days.
