Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Critical safety: If you suspect back‑burn into the hopper, do not open the hopper lid immediately. Isolate power and observe for smoke or unusual odors. Have a fire extinguisher rated for solid fuel nearby.
- Allow the furnace to cool completely.
- Inspect the hopper temperature sensor mounted on or inside the fuel hopper wall. Check wiring and mounting.
- Check the screw feeder tube for signs of overheating, discoloration, or deformation.
- Verify that the burner seals and gaskets are intact and that the burner tube is correctly seated to prevent flame rollback.
- Clean the burner and ensure combustion settings (fan speed, fuel feed) are within Defro recommendations.
- Test the hopper sensor with a multimeter if possible; replace if readings are abnormal.
If there are any signs of charring in the hopper or feeder, contact a Defro technician immediately and do not operate the furnace until inspected.
