Possible Causes

Foreign object in screw feeder, Bridging or compacted fuel in hopper, Burned‑out auger motor, Faulty auger motor capacitor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power and ensure there is no risk of accidental auger start. Do not put hands into the feeder tube.

  • Empty the top layer of fuel from the hopper to expose the auger intake.
  • Use a wooden stick to gently stir and break up any compacted fuel or bridging above the auger.
  • Remove the inspection cover on the feeder tube (if provided) and check for stones, metal pieces, or oversized fuel blocking the screw.
  • Try to rotate the auger shaft manually (using the external shaft end if accessible). If it is locked solid, clear the obstruction.
  • Inspect the auger motor and capacitor for overheating signs or burnt smell.
  • After clearing, restore power and run the auger test function from the Defro controller service menu if available.

If the motor hums but does not turn, or trips protection repeatedly, the motor or capacitor likely needs replacement by a technician.
