Furnace emits a burning smell when running, especially at the start of the season.

Safety: If you smell burning plastic or see smoke, turn off power immediately.

• Initial burn-off: A mild dusty smell at first startup of the season is normal and should dissipate after a few cycles.
• Clean interior: With power off, vacuum dust from the burner compartment, blower, and accessible surfaces.
• Inspect wiring: Look for discolored or melted insulation near hot areas. Do not operate the furnace if damaged wiring is found.
