Possible Causes

Blown internal fuse on control PCB, Faulty onboard transformer or SMPS on Cardale control board, Loose live/neutral connection at terminal block, Shorted low‑voltage accessory wiring (photocells, wall station)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect mains power to the Cardale garage door opener at the isolator or consumer unit before removing any covers. Garage door springs are under high tension—do not disturb spring hardware.

  • Check mains supply: Verify the outlet or fused spur feeding the opener has 230 V AC using a multimeter. Reset any tripped breaker or replace a blown fuse with the correct rating.
  • Inspect terminal block: With power OFF, remove the opener cover and check the L/N/E terminals for loose screws, heat damage, or discoloured insulation. Tighten any loose connections.
  • Check low‑voltage accessories: Disconnect photocell/photobeam and wall control wires from the control PCB low‑voltage terminals (often marked “PHOTOCELL”, “PUSH BUTTON”, “COM”). Restore power and see if E1 clears. If it does, there is a short in the accessory wiring or device.
  • Inspect control board fuse: Locate the small glass or blade fuse on the Cardale control PCB. If blown, replace with the same type and rating only. If it blows again immediately, the transformer or SMPS section is likely shorted and the board must be replaced.
  • Board replacement: If E1 persists with all accessories disconnected and correct mains present, replace the complete Cardale control PCB/module. Label all connectors before removal to avoid mis‑wiring.
