Possible Causes
Misaligned Cardale safety photocells, Dirty or blocked photocell lenses, Broken or reversed polarity photocell wiring, Failed photocell transmitter or receiver module
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not bypass safety devices for normal operation. Work with power off when handling wiring.
- Check for obvious obstruction: Make sure nothing is blocking the beam between the Cardale photocell transmitter and receiver (bins, bikes, tools).
- Clean lenses: Gently clean both photocell lenses with a soft cloth. Dust, cobwebs, or water spots can cause E2.
- Verify alignment: Loosen the mounting screws and adjust the photocells so they face each other directly at the same height. Many Cardale sensors have an LED that turns solid when aligned; adjust until the LED indicates correct alignment.
- Inspect wiring: With power OFF, check the low‑voltage cables from the opener to each photocell. Look for crushed insulation, joins in damp areas, or reversed +/– connections. Re‑terminate any damaged conductors and ensure polarity matches the markings on the control board and sensors.
- Test by temporary bypass (diagnostic only): If local regulations allow and only for testing, bridge the photocell input terminals at the control board with a short wire link. Restore power and test. If E2 clears and the door moves, the fault is in the photocells or their wiring. Remove the bypass immediately after testing and restore proper safety devices.
- Replace faulty photocell set: If alignment and wiring are correct but E2 persists, replace the complete Cardale safety photocell kit (transmitter and receiver).
