Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect mains power before touching the motor or opening the housing.
Steps to try:
- Allow cooling time: If the opener has been used many times in a short period, leave it powered off for 20–30 minutes to allow the motor thermal protector to reset.
- Check manual movement: Release the emergency disconnect and move the door by hand. If the door is stiff or jammed, correct the mechanical issue before using the opener again.
- Inspect drive components: Remove the light cover and inspect the motor sprocket, chain/belt, and carriage. Look for broken teeth, seized sprockets, or foreign objects.
- Listen for motor hum: Restore power and attempt a cycle while listening closely. A humming motor that does not turn suggests a seized motor or failed start capacitor (if fitted).
If E5 returns immediately after cooling and the door moves freely by hand, the motor assembly is likely defective and should be replaced as a complete Novoferm motor unit.
