Possible Causes

Burned-out light bulb, Incorrect bulb type causing overload, Failed light relay on logic board, Shorted lamp socket

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before changing bulbs or opening the housing. Use only bulbs within the wattage rating specified by Stanley.

Steps to correct light issues:

  • 1. Verify bulb type: Remove the bulb cover and check the installed bulb. Replace with a new, standard incandescent or LED bulb of the correct wattage (often 60W max). Avoid rough-service or halogen bulbs that can interfere with electronics.
  • 2. Inspect socket: With power off, examine the lamp socket for heat damage, corrosion, or loose center contact. Gently bend the center contact up slightly if it is flattened.
  • 3. Test operation: Restore power and operate the opener. The light should come on during operation and time out after the programmed delay.
  • 4. Check for stuck relay: If the light stays on constantly, the light relay on the logic board may be stuck closed. Disconnect power, remove the cover, and inspect the board for a small relay near the lamp terminals. If it is heat-damaged or clicking erratically, the logic board may need replacement.
  • 5. Replace logic board if needed: If a known-good bulb and socket still do not work or stay on, replace the Stanley-compatible control board following the manufacturer’s wiring diagram.
