Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Immediately turn off the breaker. Do not use the disposal until all moisture is addressed.
- Inspect for leaks: Check around the sink flange, mounting assembly, and dishwasher inlet for signs of dripping. Tighten mounting bolts and replace the sink flange gasket or plumber’s putty if leaking.
- Dry the switch and control: Remove the sink switch cover and gently dry the interior with a cloth. Do not use heat guns directly on plastic parts. Allow several hours of air drying.
- Check for standing water: Look for water pooling on top of the disposal housing or around the junction box. Dry thoroughly and correct the source of the leak.
- Reset and test: After everything is completely dry, restore power and test briefly. If E12 reappears, internal components may be damaged.
Persistent E12 after drying indicates possible internal ground faults; the safest solution is to replace the affected Maxmatic switch or disposal unit.
