Possible Causes
Defective current sensor on control board, Loose sensor harness, Incorrect calibration after power event, Partial obstruction causing false overload reading
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker before working on the unit.
- Verify no jam: Rotate the impeller plate via the hex port to ensure it moves freely. Remove any debris from the chamber.
- Inspect sensor wiring: Locate the current sensor (often a small ring or clamp around one of the motor wires) and ensure its connector to the control board is secure.
- Power reset: Turn off the breaker for 5–10 minutes to allow the control to reset its calibration.
- Test with light load: Run the disposal with only water and a small amount of soft food. If it still shuts off with E13, the sensor or control is likely faulty.
Because the current sensor is integrated with the control on many Maxmatic models, replacement of the control module or entire disposal may be necessary.
