Possible Causes
Deteriorated sink flange gasket, Dried or cracked plumber’s putty, Loose mounting ring screws, Corroded sink flange body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and unplug the disposal if possible. Do not operate a leaking unit.
- Confirm leak source: Fill the sink with a few inches of water and observe the area around the sink flange from below to verify the leak is at the top.
- Support and remove disposal: Place a box or support under the Maxmatic unit, release the mounting ring, and lower the disposal carefully.
- Reseal the flange: Remove the old flange and clean all old putty or gasket material from the sink opening. Apply a fresh bead of plumber’s putty or install a new Maxmatic sink flange gasket per the manual.
- Reinstall and tighten: Reinstall the flange and mounting assembly, tightening the mounting screws evenly. Reattach the disposal and test for leaks.
If the metal flange is pitted or cracked, replace it with a new Maxmatic-compatible sink flange kit.
