Possible Causes
Water intrusion in pump motor, Shorted heater element to ground, Damaged ozone generator, Faulty control pack
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Do not repeatedly reset a tripping GFCI. This indicates a potentially dangerous fault. Work should be done by a qualified technician.
- 1. Visual inspection: With power off, inspect inside the equipment bay for obvious water leaks, burned components, or melted wiring.
- 2. Component isolation: Disconnect non-essential components (ozone generator, lights) from the control pack. Restore power and see if the breaker still trips.
- 3. Pump isolation: Disconnect jet pumps one at a time and test. A pump that causes tripping when connected is likely shorted and must be replaced.
- 4. Heater test: Disconnect heater leads and test. If the breaker no longer trips, the heater element is likely leaking to ground and the heater assembly should be replaced.
- 5. Control pack replacement: If all loads are disconnected and the breaker still trips when powering the spa, the control pack itself may be shorted and will need replacement.
