Possible Causes
Shorted flow switch contacts, Stuck flow switch paddle, Wiring short in flow switch harness, Control board input fault
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Warning: A stuck-closed flow switch can allow the heater to run without proper flow. Do not operate the spa for long periods with this error.
- Power down: Turn off the spa at the breaker.
- Inspect flow switch wiring: Open the MAAX equipment bay and locate the flow switch harness on the control pack. Check for pinched or damaged wires and secure connections.
- Check plumbing orientation: Confirm the flow switch is installed with the arrow pointing in the direction of water flow and that there are no plumbing modifications causing backflow.
- Test switch movement: With plumbing drained or isolated, remove the flow switch and gently move the paddle or plunger to ensure it is not jammed by debris or scale. Clean with a soft brush if needed.
- Reset system: Reinstall the switch, restore power, and observe. If FLC returns immediately, the switch contacts may be welded closed or the control board input is faulty.
- Replace if needed: Install a new MAAX-compatible flow switch assembly if the old one tests shorted with a multimeter even when no flow is present.
