Possible Causes

Shorted sensor leads, Water intrusion into sensor, Sensor cable pinched, Control board sensor input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Warning: A shorted sensor can falsely indicate extreme temperatures. Verify actual water temperature before proceeding.

  • Measure water temp: Use a separate thermometer to confirm the spa is not actually overheating.
  • Power off: Turn off the breaker.
  • Inspect sensor cable: Look for crushed or pinched sections where the insulation may be damaged.
  • Check connector: Remove the sensor plug from the control board and inspect for moisture or corrosion. Dry and clean if needed.
  • Test resistance: Measure the sensor resistance and compare to MAAX specifications for the current water temperature. A near-zero reading indicates a shorted sensor.
  • Replace sensor or board: If the sensor is shorted, replace it. If a new sensor still reads shorted, the control board input may be defective.
