Possible Causes
Heater element damaged from dry-fire, Severe flow restriction in heater plumbing, Failed circulation pump, Control pack lockout after multiple dry errors
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the GFCI breaker. Do not continue to reset and run the spa with a dY error; this can worsen heater damage.
- 1. Correct all dr causes: Ensure water level is correct, all valves are open, filters are clean, and air has been bled from the pump and heater.
- 2. Inspect heater for damage: With power OFF, visually inspect the PDC Spas heater tube and unions for discoloration, warping, or melted plastic, which indicate severe overheating.
- 3. Test circulation pump: Confirm that the circulation pump runs freely and produces strong flow. If it is seized, noisy, or not running, plan to replace it.
- 4. Reset lockout: After addressing flow issues, leave power OFF for at least 5 minutes, then restore power. If dY returns immediately, the heater or control board may be damaged.
Because dY indicates repeated unsafe operation, professional diagnosis is strongly recommended.
