Possible Causes
Loose fan wheel on motor shaft, Broken fan blade, Worn fan motor bearings, Loose compressor mounting bolts or rubber grommets
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before removing covers. Keep fingers away from fan blades.
Steps:
- Identify noise source: Remove the front or rear panel and briefly run the unit (if safe) to locate whether the noise comes from the fan area or compressor area.
- Fan inspection: With power off, check that the fan wheel is firmly attached to the motor shaft. Tighten the set screw if loose. Replace the Argo fan wheel if cracked or unbalanced.
- Motor bearings: Spin the fan by hand. If it feels rough or wobbly, replace the Argo indoor fan motor.
- Compressor mounts: Inspect the rubber grommets under the compressor. Replace any that are cracked or missing and tighten mounting bolts to reduce vibration.
- Reassemble and test: After securing components, reassemble and run the unit to confirm noise reduction.
