Possible Causes

Open or shorted ambient NTC sensor, Damaged sensor harness, Corroded sensor connector on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Argo dehumidifier before opening any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to mains power.

Steps to check and fix:

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try to start. If E1 returns, continue.
  • Locate the ambient sensor: Remove the front or side grille (varies by Argo model such as Argo Dry Digit or Argo Deolo). The room temperature NTC sensor is usually clipped near the air intake grille or on the evaporator inlet, with two thin wires going to the main PCB.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness for cuts, pinched sections, or broken insulation. Reseat the connector on the main control board (Argo main PCB) and ensure it is fully inserted.
  • Test the sensor: Using a multimeter set to resistance, measure the NTC sensor at room temperature (around 20–25°C). Typical NTC values are 5–20 kΩ; if it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
  • Replace if faulty: If readings are abnormal, replace the Argo ambient NTC temperature sensor. Route the new sensor wiring along the original path and secure it with clips or ties to avoid contact with the fan or sharp metal edges.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit the grille, plug the unit back in, and power on. Confirm that the E1 code is cleared and that the unit starts normally.
