Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC sensor, Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty sensor input on main PCB
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Disconnect the Argo unit from power before removing covers. Sharp metal edges inside the cabinet can cause injury; wear cut-resistant gloves.
Diagnostic and repair steps:
- Access the evaporator: Remove the front housing and air filter. On most Argo dehumidifiers, the evaporator coil is directly behind the filter.
- Locate the coil sensor: Look for a small probe or bead-type NTC sensor clipped or taped to the evaporator fins, with two wires leading to the main control board.
- Check mounting: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil surface. If it has fallen off, reattach it using aluminum tape or the original clip so it makes good thermal contact.
- Inspect wiring and connector: Follow the sensor wires to the PCB. Check for chafing, corrosion, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the main PCB.
- Measure resistance: With a multimeter, measure the sensor resistance at room temperature. Compare to the ambient sensor if they are the same type; large discrepancies (open or short) indicate a bad sensor.
- Replace sensor if needed: Install a new Argo evaporator NTC temperature sensor, routing the cable away from the fan and moving parts. Secure it firmly to the evaporator coil.
- Reassemble and test: Refit covers and filter, restore power, and verify that E2 no longer appears and the unit runs through a full cycle.
