Possible Causes

Failed indoor fan motor, Obstructed fan wheel, Faulty fan capacitor (on AC motors), Fan tachometer feedback failure to main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit. The fan blades are sharp and can cause injury; do not attempt to spin the fan with power applied.

Steps:

  • Check for obstructions: Remove the front or rear grille and inspect the fan wheel (sirocco or axial) for foreign objects, ice buildup, or warped plastic. Clear any obstructions.
  • Spin test: Gently spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely without grinding. If it is stiff or seized, the Argo fan motor is likely defective.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the fan motor wires to the main PCB. Ensure the connector is secure and not burnt.
  • Capacitor check (if equipped): Some Argo dehumidifiers use a separate fan capacitor. Inspect it for bulging or leakage. Replace the Argo fan motor capacitor if suspect.
  • Power test: With covers in place and using proper electrical safety, briefly power the unit and listen for the fan attempting to start. If it hums but does not turn, the motor or capacitor is faulty.
  • Replace motor: Remove the fan assembly and install a new Argo indoor fan motor, transferring the fan wheel to the new shaft and tightening the set screw.
  • Reassemble and test: Refit all covers, restore power, and verify that E8 is cleared and airflow is normal.
