Possible Causes
Overheated compressor, Blocked condenser coil, Faulty compressor thermal protector, Defective main PCB compressor relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system or pierce any copper tubing.
Steps:
- Ventilation check: Ensure the Cecotec dehumidifier is at least 20–30 cm away from walls and not enclosed in a cabinet. Blocked airflow can cause overheating and E5.
- Clean condenser: Remove the rear cover and gently vacuum or brush dust from the warm condenser coil and surrounding area. A clogged condenser reduces heat dissipation.
- Filter cleaning: Remove and wash the air filter with mild soap and water. Let it dry completely before reinstalling.
- Cool-down period: Allow the unit to sit unplugged for 30–60 minutes to let the compressor cool. Then plug in and test.
- Check compressor wiring: With power disconnected, inspect the compressor terminals and overload protector (usually a small device clipped to the compressor). Look for burnt connectors or loose spade terminals and reseat them.
- If E5 persists: The compressor overload, compressor windings, or high-pressure protection circuit may be faulty. These involve high-voltage and sealed-system work and should be diagnosed and repaired by a qualified refrigeration technician.
