Possible Causes

Open or shorted ambient NTC thermistor, Damaged sensor harness to main PCB, Corroded connector on control board, Failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Ebac dehumidifier before removing any covers. Capacitors on the control board may hold a charge; avoid touching board components.

Steps to check and correct:

  • 1. Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug back in and see if E1 clears. If it returns, continue.
  • 2. Locate the room sensor: Remove the front or top cover (varies by model). The ambient NTC sensor is usually clipped near the air intake grille or on the evaporator inlet, with two thin wires going to the main PCB.
  • 3. Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness for cuts, pinched sections, or pulled-out pins. Reseat the connector on the main PCB and at the sensor if it is removable.
  • 4. Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. At room temperature (~20–25°C), most Ebac NTC sensors read between 5–20 kΩ. If it reads open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is faulty.
  • 5. Replace if defective: If resistance is out of spec or the wiring is damaged, replace the ambient temperature sensor with the correct Ebac NTC probe for your model. Route the new sensor away from sharp metal and moving parts.
  • 6. Check the PCB: If a known-good sensor still gives E1, the sensor input on the main control PCB may be defective. Inspect for burnt components or corrosion; replacement of the main PCB is usually required.

When to call a technician: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or accessing the control board, or if the PCB appears damaged, contact an Ebac service agent.
