Possible Causes
Failed relative humidity sensor, Disconnected or damaged RH sensor cable, Contaminated sensor from dust or chemical vapors, Faulty main PCB humidity input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the dehumidifier before removing covers. Avoid static discharge to the control board and sensor.
Steps:
- 1. Locate the humidity sensor: On many Ebac models, the RH sensor is mounted behind the front grille or on a small board near the air intake, connected to the main PCB by a small harness.
- 2. Visual inspection: Check for heavy dust, paint overspray, or corrosion on the sensor. If it is dirty, gently clean with a soft brush and a small amount of isopropyl alcohol, then let it dry completely.
- 3. Check connections: Ensure the sensor plug is fully seated on both the sensor module and the main PCB. Look for broken or frayed wires.
- 4. Functional test: If you have access to Ebac service data, compare sensor output (resistance or voltage) to specifications. If not, substitute a known-good RH sensor if available.
- 5. Replace sensor: If cleaning and reseating do not clear E3, replace the humidity sensor assembly with the correct Ebac part. Mount it in the same airflow location as the original.
- 6. Check the PCB: If a new sensor does not resolve the error, the main control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
Tip: Avoid using the unit in environments with aggressive chemicals or aerosols that can damage the RH sensor.
