Possible Causes
Blocked air intake or outlet grille, Failed high-limit thermostat on compressor discharge, Overheated compressor due to dirty condenser, Faulty high-temperature sensor or wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool for at least 20 minutes before working near the compressor or coils.
Steps:
- 1. Check airflow: Inspect the front and rear grilles. Remove any obstructions and vacuum dust from the intake and outlet. Ensure the unit is at least 30 cm from walls or furniture.
- 2. Clean condenser coil: Remove the rear or side panel to access the warm condenser coil. Use a soft brush and vacuum to remove lint and dust. Do not bend the fins.
- 3. Inspect high-limit thermostat: Many Ebac units have a thermal cut-out or thermostat clipped to the compressor discharge line. Check that it is firmly attached and that its wires are intact and connected to the PCB.
- 4. Test continuity: With power disconnected, test the high-limit thermostat with a multimeter. It should show continuity at room temperature. If it is open and does not reset after cooling, replace it.
- 5. Check fan operation: Restore power briefly and confirm that the fan runs at full speed when the compressor is commanded on. A weak or non-running fan can cause overheating.
- 6. Replace faulty parts: Replace a defective high-limit thermostat, fan motor, or temperature sensor as indicated by testing. If the compressor itself is overheating due to internal failure, a refrigeration technician is required.
Warning: Do not bypass or short the high-limit thermostat; it is a critical safety device.
