Unit is excessively noisy during operation (rattling, buzzing, or grinding)

Safety: Unplug the unit before tightening or adjusting components.

Steps:

• 1. Identify noise source: Run the unit briefly with covers in place and listen to locate the general area (top, side, rear). Then unplug and remove the cover in that area.
• 2. Fan wheel: Check that the fan wheel is firmly secured to the motor shaft. Tighten the set screw or clip. Remove any debris caught in the blades.
• 3. Motor bearings: Spin the fan by hand. Roughness or play indicates worn bearings; replace the fan motor.
• 4. Compressor mounts: Inspect the rubber grommets and mounting bolts on the compressor. Tighten loose bolts and replace cracked grommets.
• 5. Panel vibration: Tighten loose screws on cabinet panels. Add foam or rubber strips where panels contact the frame if needed.
