Dirty water bucket, Mold growth on evaporator coil, Clogged drain channel with biofilm, Dirty air filter
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Wear gloves and a mask if sensitive to mold.
Steps:
- Clean bucket: Remove the water bucket and scrub with warm water and a mild bleach solution (1 tablespoon bleach per gallon of water). Rinse thoroughly.
- Clean filter: Wash the air filter with soap and water and let it dry completely.
- Access coil and drain: Remove the front panel to expose the evaporator coil and drain trough. Wipe accessible surfaces with a coil-safe cleaner or mild detergent solution.
- Flush drain: Pour a small amount of diluted bleach solution through the drain channel to kill biofilm, then flush with clean water.
- Drying run: After reassembly, run the unit in a dry, well-ventilated area for several hours to help clear residual odors.
- Regular maintenance: Empty and rinse the bucket daily in heavy use and clean the filter monthly.
