Possible Causes
Low or lost refrigerant charge, Failed compressor, Severely dirty evaporator or condenser coils, Non-operational fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before internal inspection. Do not attempt refrigerant repairs yourself.
Steps:
- Check humidity and temperature: Ensure the room is humid (above 50%) and within operating temperature (41–95°F / 5–35°C). In very cool or dry rooms, little water will be collected.
- Inspect coils: Remove the front grille and filter. Look at the evaporator coil while the unit has been running for 10–15 minutes. It should be cool and may have a light, even frost pattern in very humid conditions.
- Check compressor operation: Listen for the compressor starting (a deeper humming sound) after the fan starts. If the fan runs but the compressor never starts, there may be a compressor, capacitor, or control issue.
- Clean coils and filter: Gently vacuum dust from the evaporator and condenser coils. Clean the filter thoroughly.
- Fan check: Confirm the fan is blowing strong air through the unit. Weak or no airflow will prevent moisture removal.
- Professional service: If the compressor runs but the evaporator coil never gets cold, or if there is oily residue on tubing (sign of refrigerant leak), the sealed system likely has failed. Contact an authorized Frigidaire technician for diagnosis and possible compressor/sealed system repair.
