Possible Causes
Open or shorted ambient temperature sensor, Loose thermistor connector at control board, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty main control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before opening any covers.
Steps:
- Reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in. If E1 reappears immediately, proceed with inspection.
- Locate the temperature sensor: On most Frigidaire dehumidifiers, the ambient thermistor is clipped near the air intake or on the evaporator coil frame. It is a small bead or bullet-shaped sensor with two wires.
- Inspect the sensor and wiring: Check for broken insulation, corrosion, or a sensor that has fallen out of its clip. Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the coil or bracket as designed.
- Check the connector: Trace the sensor wires to the main control board. Reseat the plug and ensure no pins are bent or burned.
- Clean the area: Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust from the intake and around the sensor. Heavy dust can cause inaccurate readings.
- Test: Reassemble, plug in, and run the unit. If E1 persists, the thermistor is likely defective and should be replaced with a Frigidaire-compatible temperature sensor.
- Control board check: If a new sensor does not clear E1, the main control board may not be reading the sensor correctly and may need replacement by a technician.
