Possible Causes

Shorted or open evaporator thermistor, Loose sensor clip on evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness, Faulty main control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before servicing.

Procedure:

  • Access the coil: Remove the front grille and air filter. On many Frigidaire models, you may need to remove a few screws to access the evaporator coil area.
  • Locate the evaporator sensor: Look for a small sensor clipped directly to the evaporator coil tubing or fins, usually wrapped or taped to the coil with two small wires leading back to the control board.
  • Check attachment: Ensure the sensor is firmly clipped or taped to the coil. A loose sensor can misread temperature and trigger E2.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the wires back to the control board. Look for cuts, pinches, or burn marks. Reseat the connector at the board.
  • Clean the coil: If the coil is heavily iced or dirty, allow ice to melt completely (leave unplugged with towels underneath) and gently clean the fins with a soft brush. Do not bend fins.
  • Test: Reassemble, plug in, and run the unit. If E2 returns, replace the evaporator temperature sensor with a Frigidaire-approved part.
  • Board diagnosis: If a new sensor does not resolve E2, the main control board may be defective and should be tested/replaced by a professional.
