Possible Causes
Evaporator coil temperature too low, Unit operating in a cold room, Frost buildup on evaporator, Faulty defrost sensor or control logic
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Note: On many Frigidaire dehumidifiers, P1 is not a fault but an indication that the unit is in defrost mode.
Steps:
- Check room temperature: Ensure the room is above the minimum operating temperature (typically 41°F / 5°C). If the room is too cold, move the unit to a warmer area.
- Allow defrost cycle: Leave the unit plugged in and powered on. P1 may clear automatically after 10–30 minutes once the coil warms up.
- Inspect for icing: If you can see the evaporator coil, check for heavy frost or ice. If iced, turn the unit off and unplug it. Allow all ice to melt completely.
- Clean filter and coil: A dirty filter or coil can cause low coil temperature and icing. Clean the filter and gently vacuum the coil fins.
- Restart: After thawing and cleaning, plug in and restart. If P1 persists in a warm room with no ice, the defrost sensor or control board may be malfunctioning.
- Service: Persistent P1 in proper conditions warrants inspection of the defrost sensor and main control board by a technician.
