Possible Causes

Defective ambient temperature sensor (NTC) on evaporator coil, Broken or loose sensor wiring harness, Corroded connector on main control PCB, Failed main control board sensor input circuit

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Gree dehumidifier before removing any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.

Steps to check and correct:

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5–10 minutes, then plug back in and try again. Sometimes E1 can be a transient sensor read error.
  • Access the sensor: Remove the front or side cover (usually several Phillips screws). Locate the small probe-type sensor clipped to the evaporator coil or near the air inlet labeled as the ambient or room NTC sensor.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the thin sensor wires from the probe to the main control PCB. Look for cuts, pinches, or disconnections. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
  • Check sensor resistance: With a multimeter set to kΩ, measure resistance across the sensor leads (with the unit unplugged). At room temperature (~25°C), most Gree NTC sensors read around 5–10 kΩ. If the reading is open (OL) or near 0 Ω, the sensor is defective.
  • Replace if faulty: If resistance is out of spec or wiring is damaged, replace the ambient temperature sensor (NTC) with a Gree-compatible part. Route the new sensor along the original path and secure it with clips or zip ties away from moving parts.
  • Inspect control board: If a known-good sensor still gives E1, inspect the main PCB for burnt components or corrosion. In that case, the main control board may need replacement.

When to stop: If you are not comfortable using a multimeter or removing covers, contact a qualified appliance technician.
