Possible Causes

Defective evaporator pipe sensor (NTC), Sensor dislodged from evaporator coil, Damaged sensor harness or connector, Faulty sensor input circuit on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Disconnect power before opening the cabinet. Sharp metal edges may be present; wear cut-resistant gloves.

Steps:

  • Reset: Unplug for 5–10 minutes and restart. If E2 returns immediately, proceed with inspection.
  • Locate pipe sensor: Remove the front grille and filter. Remove screws securing the front housing. The pipe sensor is usually clipped or taped to the evaporator coil tubing (thin copper or aluminum tubes).
  • Check mounting: Ensure the sensor tip is firmly attached to the coil surface. If it has fallen off, reattach using aluminum tape or the original clip so it makes good thermal contact.
  • Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the main PCB. Look for chafing, pinched wires, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector.
  • Test sensor: With a multimeter, measure resistance at room temperature. Compare to the specification in the Gree service manual (commonly 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). If reading is open or shorted, replace the sensor.
  • Replace sensor: Install a Gree-compatible evaporator pipe sensor. Route wires away from the fan and sharp edges. Secure with clips or tape.
  • Check PCB: If a new sensor does not clear E2, the main control board may be defective and require replacement.
