Possible Causes
Overheated compressor due to blocked airflow, Failed compressor thermal protector, Low or high refrigerant pressure condition, Faulty main control board compressor drive relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit. Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself.
Steps:
- Ventilation check: Ensure the dehumidifier is at least 20–30 cm away from walls or furniture. Clean the air filter and check that the condenser coil (rear coil) is not clogged with dust.
- Ambient temperature: Confirm the room is within the operating range specified by Gree (typically 5–35°C). Very high temperatures can cause compressor overheat.
- Power reset: Allow the unit to cool for 30–60 minutes unplugged, then restart. If E5 returns immediately, internal protection is still active.
- Compressor wiring: With power disconnected, remove the side or rear panel to access the compressor terminal cover. Inspect the overload protector and start relay (if used) for signs of burning or loose connections.
- Component replacement: If the overload protector is cracked, burnt, or rattles when shaken, replace it with a Gree-compatible compressor overload protector. Ensure all terminals are tight.
- Professional service: If E5 persists, a refrigerant or compressor issue is likely. Contact a certified technician to check pressures and compressor health.
