Possible Causes

Blocked air filter or condenser coil, Failed high-temperature sensor, Fan motor not running or running slowly, Main PCB misreading temperature

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the unit and allow it to cool before servicing. Do not cover the unit during operation.

Steps:

  • Airflow check: Remove and clean the air filter with water and mild soap. Inspect the condenser coil at the rear for dust buildup; gently vacuum or brush it clean.
  • Fan operation: Plug in briefly and observe whether the fan starts and runs at normal speed. If the fan does not run, unplug immediately and inspect the fan motor and capacitor.
  • Temperature sensor: Locate the high-temperature sensor (often attached near the condenser coil or compressor). Check that it is firmly attached and wiring is intact.
  • Sensor test: With power off, measure sensor resistance and compare to spec. Replace the high-temperature sensor if open/shorted.
  • Component replacement: If the fan motor is seized or noisy, replace the cross-flow fan motor and ensure the blower wheel spins freely.
  • Persistent E8: If airflow and sensors are good but E8 remains, the main control board may be misreading temperature and require replacement.
