Possible Causes

Defective NTC temperature sensor on evaporator, Loose or corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Control PCB sensor input failure

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before removing panels or testing electrical components.

  • Access evaporator area: Remove the internal cover to expose the evaporator plate or grid. Locate the small temperature sensor (NTC) clipped or bonded to the evaporator surface.
  • Inspect sensor and wiring: Check that the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator and has not fallen off. Inspect the cable for cuts, pinches, or signs of overheating. Ensure the connector at the control board is fully seated.
  • Test sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor from the control board and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare the reading to the Amica service chart (typical NTC values are around 5–10 kΩ at 25°C). If the reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • Check continuity: If the sensor itself tests good, check continuity from the sensor connector to the control PCB connector to rule out a broken wire.
  • Replace control PCB if needed: If wiring and sensor are confirmed good but E3 persists, the sensor input circuit on the main control board may be defective and the PCB should be replaced by a qualified technician.
